Veterinarians in Rwanda are trained through a degree program at the University of Rwanda in Nyagatare, and several schools across the country offer programs leading to a degree as a veterinary technician (paravet).
Despite numerous improvements in recent decades, there remains a great need for postgraduate continuing education - and thus for enhancing professional qualifications - even after successful completion of a degree program. VetPro supports and facilitates this.
From the very beginning and on an ongoing basis, the NVVH and the members of the VetPro association have facilitated and promoted postgraduate training for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. To this end, team members from Rwanda have been and continue to be invited to Austria to receive training and continuing education at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna and at numerous Austrian clinics, veterinary practices, and laboratories.
With support from the Rwandan Veterinary Medical Association (RCDV) and the veterinary universities of Rwanda (UR) and Vienna (VMU Wien), the NVVH has established a postgraduate training program (continuing education/CE, internships, seminars, and training courses). These activities are open not only to NVVH employees but also, in principle, to all high school students, college students, and veterinary graduates. Numerous seminars have been held to date.
Experienced veterinarians from Rwanda, Austria, and other countries around the world contribute to improving veterinary standards and animal welfare in Rwanda by voluntarily and freely sharing their knowledge and expertise.
