Animal Welfare & Animal Health

How VetPro and the NVVH promote animal welfare and health in Rwanda through veterinary care, training, and the One Health approach.

Building Awareness

Awareness of animal welfare and the integration of animal protection into the country’s society and legislation have not yet taken root to any significant extent. One of the core issues addressed by the NVVH and the VetPro association is to, through Good Veterinary Practice, to bring about lasting improvements through collaboration with local animal welfare organizations and the training and continuing education of veterinarians.

We also work to raise public awareness about animal welfare.

Advancing Veterinary Medicine and Education in Rwanda

Our goal is, Good Veterinary Practice to establish a permanent, sustainable, and self-sufficient program in Rwanda. In line with international standards, the program focuses on disease prevention, population control, and the treatment of sick individual animals and herds. Our guiding principles are “helping people help themselves” and the “One Health” concept. Animal welfare is always the primary consideration in our decision-making.

Pet owners who are unable to cover the cost of treatment will receive assistance whenever possible. Over the years, we have succeeded in establishing a high-quality veterinary clinic with two locations, training a competent team, and implementing reliable procedures. These processes will continue to be supported in the future through financial and educational resources.
