A veterinary hospital in Musanze and a small animal clinic in Kigali, run by Rwandan veterinarians in partnership with VetPro.
The New Vision Veterinary Hospital (NVVH) in Rwanda was officially opened in 2016 in the Musanze District. It was funded by a foundation dedicated to animal welfare. The initiative was launched by a group of Rwandan veterinarians who drew the attention of their Austrian colleagues to the challenging conditions of veterinary practice in their country.
Thanks to the NVVH’s efforts, it has become possible to establish veterinary medicine nationwide in accordance with the highest standards, in both clinical practice and laboratory diagnostics, as well as in the education and continuing professional development of local veterinarians and support staff. VetPro supports the continued development of the NVVH and the Rwandan veterinarians working there.
Rwanda is an East African country located near the equator with a very high population density. Although the economy has grown significantly in recent years, approximately 60% of the population lives below the poverty line. About 93% of Rwandans live in rural areas, and of those, about 90% rely on subsistence farming.
Veterinary training institutions include the University of Rwanda in Nyagatare and other schools across the country that train veterinary technicians (paravets). Despite these institutions, there is a great need to improve professional qualifications.
The New Vision Veterinary Hospital (NVVH) was planned in 2015 and opened in 2016, initially with a single location in Musanze (Ruhengeri) in the northwest of the country. Since 2018, there has been an additional location in the capital, Kigali. While the Musanze facility covers large animal, poultry, and small animal medicine and also features a high-quality laboratory, the clinic in Kigali is dedicated to small animal medicine at the highest level. Both clinics have training facilities.
Large animal, poultry, and small animal medicine, along with the Veterinary Knowledge Center, all under one roof, featuring a high-quality laboratory for precise on-site diagnostics.
Offers small animal veterinary care, surgeries, services related to travel documents, dental care, as well as X-ray and ultrasound examinations.
