Privacy Policy

We have written this Privacy Policy (version 17.12.2020-111578260) to inform you in accordance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 to explain what information we collect, how we use data, and what choices you have as a visitor to this website. While these explanations may sound technical by nature, we have made every effort to describe the most important aspects as simply and clearly as possible.

Cookies

Our website uses HTTP cookies to store user-specific data. In the following section, we explain what cookies are and why they are used, to help you better understand this Privacy Policy.

What Exactly Are Cookies?

Whenever you browse the internet, you use a browser — well-known examples include Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge. Most websites store small text files in your browser, known as cookies. One thing is clear: cookies are truly useful little helpers. Almost all websites use them. More precisely, these are HTTP cookies, as there are other types of cookies for different applications. HTTP cookies are small files that our website stores on your computer. These files are automatically placed in the cookie folder — essentially the “memory” of your browser. A cookie consists of a name and a value. When defining a cookie, one or more additional attributes must also be specified. Cookies store certain user data, such as your preferred language or personal site settings. When you revisit our site, your browser sends these “user-related” details back to us. Thanks to cookies, our website recognizes you and displays your usual settings. In some browsers, each cookie is stored in a separate file; in others, such as Firefox, all cookies are saved together in one file. There are both first-party cookies and third-party cookies. First-party cookies are created directly by our website, while third-party cookies are set by partner websites (for example, Google Analytics). Each cookie must be evaluated individually, as each stores different kinds of data. Their lifespan also varies — some expire within a few minutes, while others may remain active for several years. Cookies are not software programs and do not contain viruses, trojans, or other harmful elements. They also cannot access information stored on your computer. Here’s an example of what cookie data may look like:

Name: _ga

Value: GA1.2.1326744211.152111578260-9

Payment Reference: distinction between website visitors

Expiry Date: after 2 years. A browser should be able to support at least the following minimum sizes:

  • At least 4096 bytes per cookie
  • At least 50 cookies per domain
  • At least 3000 cookies in total

What types of cookies are there?

The specific types of cookies we use depend on the services implemented on this website and are explained in the following sections of this privacy policy. At this point, we would like to briefly outline the different types of HTTP cookies. There are four main categories of cookies:

Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary to ensure the basic functionality of the website. For example, they are required when a user adds a product to the shopping cart, continues browsing other pages, and proceeds to checkout later. Thanks to these cookies, the shopping cart is not deleted even if the user closes their browser window.

Functional Cookies

These cookies collect information about user behavior and whether the user receives any error messages. They also help measure the website’s loading time and performance across different browsers.

Target-oriented cookies

These cookies enhance user experience by storing information such as entered locations, font sizes, or form data.

Advertising Cookies

These cookies, also known as targeting cookies, are used to deliver personalized advertising to users. This can be very useful—but sometimes also quite annoying. Usually, when you visit a website for the first time, you are asked which types of cookies you wish to allow. And of course, this preference is also stored in a cookie.

How can I delete cookies?

You can decide for yourself how and whether you want to use cookies. Regardless of which service or website the cookies come from, you always have the option to delete, deactivate, or allow them only in part. For example, you can block third-party cookies while allowing all others. If you want to see which cookies are stored in your browser or wish to change or delete your cookie settings, you can do so in your browser settings:

Chrome: Delete, enable, and manage cookies in Chrome

Safari: Manage cookies and website data with Safari

Firefox: Delete cookies to remove data stored by websites on your computer

Internet Explorer: Delete and manage cookies

Microsoft Edge: Delete and manage cookies

If you generally do not want to use cookies, you can set your browser to always notify you when a cookie is about to be placed. This way, you can decide for each individual cookie whether to allow it or not. The procedure varies depending on the browser. The easiest way is to search on Google for instructions, such as “delete cookies Chrome” or “disable cookies Chrome,” if you are using the Chrome browser.

What about my data privacy?

Since 2009, there have been the so-called “cookie guidelines.” These state that storing cookies requires your consent. However, EU countries have implemented these guidelines in different ways. In Austria, the directive was incorporated into § 96 (3) of the Telecommunications Act (TKG). If you would like to learn more about cookies and don’t mind technical documentation, we recommend https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6265—the Request for Comments by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) titled “HTTP State Management Mechanism.”

Storage of Personal Data

Personal data that you transmit to us electronically on this website—such as your name, email address, postal address, or other personal information submitted through a form or blog comment—will be used by us solely for the stated purpose, stored securely together with the time and IP address, and not shared with third parties. We use your personal data only to communicate with visitors who explicitly wish to be contacted and to process the services or products offered on this website. We do not share your personal data without your consent, but we cannot entirely exclude the possibility that such data may be accessed in the event of unlawful behavior. If you send us personal data by email—outside of this website—we cannot guarantee secure transmission or protection of your data. We therefore recommend that you never transmit confidential information unencrypted via email.

Newsletter Privacy Policy

When you subscribe to our newsletter, you provide the personal data mentioned above and grant us permission to contact you by email. The data collected as part of the newsletter subscription is used exclusively for sending our newsletter and is not shared with third parties. If you unsubscribe from the newsletter — you can find the link for this at the bottom of every newsletter — we will delete all data that was stored as part of your subscription.

Mail Chimp Privacy Policy

Like many other websites, we use the services of the newsletter provider Mailchimp on our website. Mailchimp is operated by The Rocket Science Group LLC, 675 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, Suite 5000, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA. Mailchimp allows us to easily send you interesting updates and news via email. We do not need to install any software to use it, yet we can benefit from a wide range of practical features. In the following section, we explain this email marketing service in more detail and inform you about the most important aspects related to data protection.

What is MailChimp?

Mailchimp is a cloud-based newsletter management service. “Cloud-based” means that we do not need to install Mailchimp on our own computer or server. Instead, we use the service through an IT infrastructure available online, hosted on external servers. This type of software use is also known as SaaS (Software as a Service). With Mailchimp, we can choose from a wide variety of email types. Depending on what we aim to achieve with our newsletter, we can send single campaigns, regular campaigns, autoresponders (automatic emails), A/B tests, RSS campaigns (sent at predefined times and frequencies), and follow-up campaigns.

Why do we use MailChimp on our website?

We use a newsletter service to stay in touch with you. We want to keep you informed about our latest news and current programs or offers. For our marketing activities, we always look for the simplest and most effective solutions, which is why we chose Mailchimp as our newsletter management service. Although the software is very easy to use, it offers a wide range of helpful features. This allows us to design interesting and visually appealing newsletters in a short amount of time. With the available design templates, each newsletter can be customized individually, and thanks to responsive design, our content is displayed clearly and attractively on smartphones and other mobile devices. Tools such as A/B testing and extensive analytics help us quickly understand how our newsletters are received. This enables us to adapt and improve our offerings and services as needed. Another advantage of Mailchimp’s cloud system is that data is not stored or processed directly on our own servers. We can access it from external servers, saving storage space and significantly reducing maintenance effort.

What data is stored by Mailchimp?

The Rocket Science Group LLC (Mailchimp) operates online platforms that allow us to stay in contact with you if you have subscribed to our newsletter. When you subscribe through our website, you confirm your membership in a Mailchimp email list via email. To verify your subscription, Mailchimp stores the date of registration and your IP address. In addition, Mailchimp saves your email address, name, physical address, and demographic information such as language or location. This data is used to send you emails and to enable certain Mailchimp features, such as newsletter analytics. Mailchimp may share information with third parties to provide improved services. Some data is also shared with third-party advertising partners to better understand customer interests and deliver more relevant and targeted content or ads. Through so-called “web beacons” (small graphics embedded in HTML emails), Mailchimp can determine whether an email has been delivered, opened, or whether links were clicked. All this information is stored on Mailchimp servers, allowing us to receive statistical evaluations and see how well our newsletters perform. This helps us tailor our content to your interests and improve our service. Mailchimp may also use this data to enhance its own services — for example, to optimize email delivery or to determine the recipients’ geographic location. The following cookies may be set by Mailchimp. This is not a complete list but an illustrative selection:

Expiry Date: after one year. Sometimes, you may open our newsletter via a provided link for better display — for example, if your email program is not functioning properly or the newsletter is not displayed correctly. In such cases, the newsletter is shown on a Mailchimp webpage. Mailchimp also uses cookies (small text files that store data in your browser) on its own websites. In doing so, personal data may be processed by Mailchimp and its partners (e.g., Google Analytics). This data collection is the responsibility of Mailchimp, and we have no control over it. You can find details in Mailchimp’s “Cookie Statement” at: https://mailchimp.com/legal/cookies/where you can find detailed information about how and why the company uses cookies.

How long and where is the data stored?

Since Mailchimp is an American company, all collected data is stored on servers in the United States. In principle, the data remains stored on Mailchimp’s servers indefinitely and will only be deleted upon your request. You can ask us to delete your contact information, which will permanently remove all your personal data from our records and anonymize you in Mailchimp’s reports. Alternatively, you may also request data deletion directly from Mailchimp. In that case, all your data will be removed from their system, and we will receive a notification from Mailchimp. Once we receive this notification, we have 30 days to delete your contact information from all connected integrations.

How can I delete my data or prevent data storage?

You can withdraw your consent to receive our newsletter at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link found at the bottom of any email. Once you unsubscribe, your data will be deleted from Mailchimp. If you access a Mailchimp webpage via a link in our newsletter and cookies are set in your browser, you can delete or disable these cookies at any time. The process for disabling or deleting cookies varies depending on your browser. The following links provide instructions on how to manage cookies in your browser:

Chrome: Delete, enable, and manage cookies in Chrome

Safari: Manage cookies and website data with Safari

Firefox: Delete cookies to remove data stored by websites on your computer

Internet Explorer: Delete and manage cookies

Microsoft Edge: Delete and manage cookies

If you generally do not want cookies, you can configure your browser to always notify you when a cookie is about to be set. This allows you to decide individually whether to allow each cookie or not. Mailchimp is an active participant in the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework, which ensures the proper and secure transfer of personal data.
